How many times have you "learned" Spanish grammar β memorized the rules, filled out the worksheets, passed the quiz β and then froze the moment you actually had to speak? π©
If I had to guess, it's probably more times than you'd like to admit. But, you're not alone. This is the case for most Americans who learned Spanish the traditional way in school.
Most grammar instruction is built backwards. It teaches you about Spanish instead of teaching you to speak Spanish. That's exactly why we built the 12-Logro Method.
What is the 12-Logro Method?
It's our Spanish learning framework, broken into 12 sets of tasks, habits, vocabulary, and grammar lessons β called Logros (English translation, milestone). The tasks define what you should be able to do in Spanish once you've completed that logro. The habits define how you have incorporated Spanish into your daily life during that logro. The vocabulary ensures that the words that you know keep up with the level that you're able to speak. And, lastly, the grammar lessons are the lessons you've learned that will help you start communicating.
Hearing the word grammar may take you back to the horrendous (and maybe even confusing π«€) rules that you learned in Spanish class years ago. Or, if you loved Spanish grammar, it may remind you of learning it but then wondering what it was all for because you still weren't able to speak Spanish even after all the hours put in.
But, I promise you that the way that we've incorporated grammar into the 12-Logro Method is different because we've strategically put this curriculum together so that you aren't learning grammar for the sake of grammar. You're learning grammar as a tool to help you say what you actually want to say, as fast as possible ππΎ
Every Logro is built around a real communication goal. You don't learn the past tense because it's "next on the list." You learn it because it unlocks something you want to be able to do in conversation.
And here's the exciting part: we're rolling out this new, revised, leveled-up version of our grammar material at the end of August β included free for all BTG Spanish Community members. Over the next few weeks, I'm going to give you a preview of what's inside, one Logro at a time. And, I promise that you'll be able to tell the difference π
Let's start at the beginning β Logro 1.
Logro 1 is all about one thing: introducing yourself in Spanish. By the end of it, you'll be able to walk up to a native speaker and CONFIDENTLY share who you are β your name, where you're from, what you do, how old you are, and a little about who you are.
Here's what you'll build:
The grammar:
- Ser β the verb for who and what you are (soy, eres, es)
- Tener for age β because in Spanish, you don't be an age, you have it (tengo treinta aΓ±os)
- Gender & agreement β learned naturally through describing yourself (soy maestra vs. soy maestro)
The vocabulary:
- Personal identity & nationalities
- Professions
- Family & relationships
- Hobbies & interests
- Greetings & courtesies
The habit:
- Speaking from day one β short, real self-introductions, out loud, from the very first lesson
The task:
- Putting it all together into a full self-introduction: greeting β name β origin β profession β age β one hobby
That's a real, usable Spanish skill β built in your very first Logro.
Want to see what a lesson actually looks like?
I recorded a preview of one of the grammar videos from Logro 1 so you can see the method in action.
βThis is just the beginning. Next week, I'll preview a lesson from a different Logro so you can see how the method builds from one milestone to the next.
Β‘Hasta pronto!
